Description
The Hamilton-Veale Rose Blackbirds Near Reading Chart was developed 10 years ago by John Veale, an Optometrist in New Zealand.
After being in practice for 30 years he was unhappy with the words used on previous near eye test charts and tests.
He asked many people to write down what they considered nice and interesting words.
The words had to be mixed up and about 4, 7 and 10 letters long.
As a result, the Hamilton-Veale Rose Blackbirds Chart was developed.
It is in N and LogMAR notation.
Healthy eyes should be able see down to N 5 or LogMAR 0.4.
The Hamilton-Veale Rose Blackbirds Test can also be used to calculate the amount of magnification needed to help Low Vision Patients.
The back of the test has the instructions to calculate the magnification needed.
